So, get this - a bunch of corporate bigwigs are telling the SEC it's time to drag those 13F rules into the 21st century. You know, those forms where investment managers have to show what stocks they're holding? Yeah, those.

These folks from the Society for Corporate Governance, NIRI and NYSE are basically saying: Hey SEC, what's with the 45-day delay? It's not like we're still using fax machines!

They've been on this kick for a while now. Back in 2013, they vocalized the need for change, and now they're back again, saying: Seriously, guys, it's been over a decade. Let's make this happen!

Here's the deal: Everyone — from the average Joe investors to the Wall Street hotshots — is using this 13F info. It's like peeking into the shopping carts of the market's biggest players. But by the time this info drops, it's about as fresh as gas station sushi.

Companies are saying they need this stuff pronto to figure out who owns their stock and to chat with their investors. And don't even get them started on how it helps spot those sneaky activist investors before they cause a ruckus.

A ton of investors chimed in, too. They're using this data to decide where to put their money, keep tabs on their fund managers, and basically try to play the market like the pros.

The petitions is basically saying: Look, SEC, you've sped up all these other filing deadlines. Why's 13F still crawling along like it's stuck in rush hour traffic? They want to slash that 45-day wait to just five business days. Their argument? In a world where you can order a pizza with a fingerprint, surely these big investment firms can speed up the filing of a form.

They're not asking for anything crazy here - just a little tweak to make the market more see-through and up-to-date. They're convinced it'll make the whole system run smoother than a fresh jar of Skippy.

So yeah, that's the lowdown. These folks are pushing for a 13F makeover and they're crossing their fingers that the SEC will finally say: You know what? Let's give it a shot!
